In our search for a preschool for our eldest son, we realized that we had to compromise on values and lifestyle practices that were so important to us.
After dropping him off on his first day, we watched him through the window, his little face a bit unsure and searching for something familiar in a room full of strangers. They sent us photos to reassure us he was fine and that he was taken care of. He was not in a bad place; it was clean, it was organized, and one of the best programs in the area, but it was not an extension of home, it was not catering to our Christian values, low-tox living, or our understanding of an ideal educational environment.
We have always been intentional parents, not because we had it all figured out, but because we were always striving to do better. When we learned how profoundly a child's environment shapes their development, we made changes to the food we served, the products we used, the air in our home, and even the materials our boys played with. We are not raising children in a bubble; we love that kids get to be kids, play in the dirt, and feed their microbiome in the backyard, but we minimize what we can control because we know these early years are the foundation of future health, habits, and development.
Every generation of parents does the best they can with what they know. Think about how car seats have evolved, because knowledge grows, and love demands we keep up with it. We were just two parents trying to keep up.
Before we were educators, directors, or founders, we were children of God. We are Mama and Dada. We are parents who understand in our bones what it means to be responsible for a little life that follows your every step and looks to you to define what is right, what is good, and what is possible.
Dada spent years working directly with children of varying exceptionalities, first as a Registered Behavior Technician and then as a Behavior Specialist, watching what happens when there are too many children and not enough connection. He saw children labeled as difficult who were simply hungry for attention that the system could not provide. He carried that with him every day.
Mama is the researcher, the instinct, the mama bear who reads every book, questions every ingredient, and never stops asking whether there was a better way. She is the reason our home became the safest, cleanest, most intentional space our boys have ever known.
Together, we asked a question that would not leave us alone: What if a preschool existed that felt like an extension of that home?
We looked. We could not find it. So we built it.
Tiny Roots Christian Academy is not just a program. It is the place we were searching for when we had to leave our own boys somewhere and prayed it would be enough. It is built on the conviction that every child deserves to be nurtured in an environment as intentional as the one waiting for them at home.
We have carried this vision for years. What gave us the courage to finally build it was simple: the knowledge that parents like you were out there looking for it too. The fact that you are here, reading this, considering entrusting us with your most treasured gift, confirms that building Tiny Roots was a step in the right direction.
We are honored, we are ready, and we cannot wait to meet your family.
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" — Ephesians 2:10
